While awaiting the arrival of your new Ortho-K lenses, it is essential to become accustomed to your daily routine. So, here is a guide on how to do just that.
Insertion
To avoid confusion, always insert the same lens, typically the correct lens, first. The right lens is green, whereas the left lens is blue. Blocking the sink or placing a paper towel over the drain orifice reduces the possibility of losing a contact lens.
Shake the case and lid to dry them out. Leave it open on a tissue overnight so it can be used the following day.
Dislodged Lenses
Occasionally, a lens in your eye may become dislodged. This may be unsettling, but you should not despair.
There are only four potential locations where the lens could dislodge: under the upper lid, under the lower lid, on the side of the eye near the nostril, or on the outer border near the ear.
Examine a mirror to determine where the lens has shifted.
Move your gaze away from the location of the lens. For example, move your eyeballs to the right if the lens in your right eye is located on the white of your eye closest to your nostril.
Then, create a stop on the opposite side of the lens by applying finger pressure to the covers. This will prevent the lens from moving so that when you slowly gaze in the direction of where the lens is located, it will be repositioned on your cornea.
Occasionally, it is helpful to touch the lens with your eyelids. However, avoid directly pushing the lens back into position, as doing so can cause harm to the cornea.
Removal
This is to be completed upon awakening in the morning. First, use your index finger to lift your lower eyelid and verify that the retainer lenses are free to move and not obstructed. Due to epithelial adhesion, bound lenses adhere to the eye; this is normal for Ortho-K lenses. To loosen a lens, repeatedly press firmly on the white of your eye at the border of your cornea at 12 and 6 o’clock.
As with your hands, it is a healthy habit to cleanse your closed eyes with hot water and detergent.
Cleaning
Always clear your lenses following use. In order to ensure that Ortho-K lens wear is comfortable, hygienic, and infection-free, an efficient cleansing procedure is essential. With proper cleansing, contact lenses will feel better on the eyes, promote improved eye health and vision, and reduce bacteria and other contaminants by a significant amount. There are a variety of cleaning solutions for rigid lenses. Depending on the system, there are several stages involved in washing and storing Ortho-K lenses.
Follow-up Care
Appointments for follow-up are essential for the monitoring and efficacy of your new Ortho-K procedure. The first follow-up appointment will be scheduled the day following the initial night of utilisation. Your Ortho-K practitioner will determine your subsequent follow-up appointments based on your response to the first night of Orthokeratology treatment and the severity of your vision correction.
